LUMEN Coalition Showcases Energy-Efficient Light Bulb Options At Area Home, Unveils New Consumer Website
WHAT: LUMEN - a coalition of more than 40 manufacturers, nonprofits and consumer groups - is informing consumers about the variety and benefits of energy-efficient lighting products and will unveil a new consumer-friendly website and a real-world lighting makeover at the home of DC-area interior designer Rose DiNapoli.
The event comes as the nation transitions to more efficient lighting beginning January 2012.
LUMEN is led by the Alliance to Save Energy, the American Lighting Association (ALA) and the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA).
WHO: LUMEN participants, including representatives from theAlliance, ALA, NEMA and coalition adviser U.S. Department of Energy, will join Ms. DiNapoli to explain the new lighting options, how to choose the best bulbs for one's lighting needs and where to get more information about today's lighting options.

This Wednesday, Oct. 19, the American Lighting Association (ALA), the National Electrical Manufacturers Association, (NEMA), the Alliance to Save Energy, (ASE), and the Dept. of Energy will hold a press conference in the home of an interior designer in Arlington, Va., to showcase the many energy-efficient lighting options available to consumers.
Joe Rey-Barreau, AIA, IES, ALA's consulting director of education, will provide the media with a walk-through of a home, highlighting multiple lamp applications using LEDs, CFLs and halogen incandescents. Dominion Electric Supply's Linda Morley provided the lighting design for the home.
The press conference is an initiative of the LUMEN Coalition, a group of more than 40 manufacturers, nonprofits and consumer groups whose goal is to inform consumers about the variety and benefits of energy-efficient lighting products. Several governmental agencies serve as advisors, including the Department of Energy, Federal Trade Commission and Environmental Protection Agency.
