The September issue of Architectural Digest just made it to my desk, so I thought I should share the two pages that feature Dominion Electric Supply! First we have a feature on the "Home Base" page:

Lighting for Tomorrow

Our Arlington showroom manager, Linda Morley, just came back from the American Lighting Association (ALA) conference that was held in California this year. She suggested I blog about the Lighting for Tomorrow competition, which is a great idea! From their website (http://www.lightingfortomorrow.com/), their intention for the competition is "to stimulate the market for attractive, energy-efficient residential lighting fixtures that use a fraction of the electricity of standard incandescent fixtures. By encouraging new designs and technologies, Lighting for Tomorrow aims to increase market acceptance and awareness of the growing opportunities in energy-efficient lighting." Here are my favorites:

We stock both of these products ~ the Cree/LLF recessed lights and the Kichler LED undercabinet. Both are on display in all 3 of our showrooms if you want to see them. They are the best LED products on the market, I think, and you won't believe how gorgeous the color quality is!

We don't stock any of these, but we can order from both American Fluorescent and Cherry Tree Desgin, and I thought all of these were really nice. Of course, I especially like the drum shade pendant!!!

We had a wonderful time on Wednesday night at our Lutron-sponsored ASID continuing education seminar. Thank you, Jordan Hobart, for presenting such wonderful content to our group! Here are some pictures:

As always, please let me know if you are interested in attending our next seminar. I'm hoping to host another one in 2 or 3 months.

Washington Post

I want to give a big "Thank You!" to designer Lori Ludwick for mentioning Dominion Electric Supply as her go-to place for lighting in today's Home section of the Washington Post. We are so proud to be her favorite! And we couldn't agree more that updating the lighting in your home is a great tip for a quick interior fix!

new Savoy House on display!

We hung new foyer pieces from Savoy House this week. What do you think? I think they would also look great over large islands or even over a small table. I love them!

ASID CEU seminar

If you are a designer or architect in need of some continuing education credits, we have a seminar for you! It will be held in our Chantilly showroom on Wednesday September 23rd, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., and it's being sponsored by Lutron. If you don't need credits, but would like to learn more about lighting controls, you're also welcome to join us. Please just email me at cschla@dominionelectric.com to RSVP (or if you'd like more details).

Have a happy & safe holiday weekend. I'll be off in Virginia Beach, walking my 13.1 miles with Team in Training for the Leukemia & Lympoma Society! It's not too late to help me raise funds to find a cure for blood cancers: http://pages.teamintraining.org/nca/rnrh09/cschlawin

BGE Energy Star package programs

Patty Jordan, our director of marketing, asked me to post this:

Baltimore Gas and Electric Launches ENERGY STAR New Homes and Advanced Lighting Package Programs

As a part of its comprehensive Smart Energy Savers Program, Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) launched an ENERGY STAR for New Homes Program on June 1, 2009. In addition to providing three tiers of incentives for separately metered homes that meet and exceed the EPA ENERGY STAR for New Homes guidelines, this program also provides additional incentives for lighting efficiency. For detached homes, the incentive for completing the EPA Advanced Lighting Package is $525 and for attached homes (townhouses, duplexes) the incentive is $325 per unit. BGE is working with the key players in the lighting market in its service territory to ensure that they are well informed about the program and associated incentives as they work with their builder clients. BGE will host an Advanced Lighting Package focused meeting on Wednesday, October 7th in Columbia, Maryland, which manufacturers and manufacturers reps are invited to attend. For more information on this event please contact Chiara D’Amore at cdamore@icfi.com. For more information on the BGE ENERGY STAR for New Homes Program, please visit: www.bgesmartenergy.com.
