new showroom displays

Our guys have been hanging some fabulous new pieces this week, so I thought I'd show you some of them here. Of course they look better in person, so we'd love to show them to you if you come visit us in Chantilly!

This one is by Hubbarton Forge, which is all hand-made in Vermont.

This is Murray Feiss.
A friend of mine just put this Bourbon Street family in her house and loves it!

This one is also Murray Feiss.

And this one is Maxim. The picture really does not do it justice ~ I think it's stunning in person!

Dallas Market

Traditionally, Dominion Electric Supply does not go to the summer market in Dallas, but I feel like I was just there after watching these videos:
http://www.residentiallighting.com/%5Cindex.cfm?fuseaction=pluggedIn
They feature Eurofase, Fredrick Ramond, Holtkotter, and Juno which we stock and carry, as well as Ellington that we can order, and Global Views, which I must admit I've never heard of!

Of these, I think I like Eurofase's introduction the best ~ especially the pink "Aurelia" chandelier at the beginning and end, but I also love the beaded crystals, the Melody spheres, the Umbrel, and the Notting Hill. I'm not sure what I think about Ramond's new pieces ~ the family with the 3 different glass pieces is certainly different! I DO like the tall foyer piece with the 3 drum shades in that family ~ it can be very challenging to find contemporary or transitional 2-story foyer fixtures, and that one would certainly work well! Holtkotter always has the most excellent quality, and I especially like their special dimmer on their reading lamps. And Juno not only has gorgeous glass on their pendants, but they also have some very innovative offerings in LED products.

So if you feel like a little "trip" to the Dallas market, be sure to visit http://www.residentiallighting.com/%5Cindex.cfm?fuseaction=pluggedIn

Hinkley Lighting ~ new supplement

Our Hinkley rep was in last week to show us all the new things from the Dallas market. They have a new "wave" on my favorite drum shades:

These pictures may be hard to see ~ if you want to learn more, you can go to http://www.hinkleylighting.com/ and look at New Products. This family is called Cirrus. Check out the decorative canopy that comes with #3805BN and 3804BN. And Hinkley is so smart ~ they also include a regular, round canopy, plus they give you the hardware to mount them close to the ceiling OR on stems as a pendant. Very clever!

The next thing that most caught our eye in this new offering was a bath family called Lanza. They're showing it in an Antique Nickel and this finish they call Brushed Bronze:

First of all, I think this fixture is gorgeous, but I'm also very intrigued by the finish. So they call it brushed bronze, but I think we used to call this color satin brass. My guess is they're trying to remove the negative connotation to the word "brass"! Whatever you call it, I think it's gorgeous!

Kichler LED Rail Lights

Today, we have a guest blogger from my showroom staff, Cathleen Smith:

Hi everyone…it’s a cloudy day out here in Chantilly VA…so thought I would write about some new “bright” ideas.

As you may know, we carry the newer version of track lighting (if not, let me tell you now that we do!), which are called “rail lights”. They usually have 3-4 heads placed on a rail and each socket can use a 50 watt halogen bulb. They are great for lighting a dark room with using only one light box!

Well now Kichler has come out with some LED versions of the rail light. They are very attractive and Energy Star qualified, so they are the “green” way. Each LED head has a 5 watt LED, which is equivalent light output to a 50 watt MR16 halogen bulb, and are fully dimmable with an electronic low voltage dimmer. Another great feature of these is that they can be mounted on either the ceiling or wall. The factory says that the fixture life is an average of 15 years!!! Imagine not having to change a light bulb for 15 years!!!

Jesco LED

Our Jesco LED rep (John Chapman) just dropped off some new catalogs with their latest & greatest inventions. Check them out!

This is a new high-output LED strip light that is twice as bright as their first tape, so we think it will even be bright enough to use under cabinets. And of course it would be great in coves and toe kicks! We have a 1' sample of it, so come visit us in Chantilly if you'd like to see it in action! Then we're also going to order a couple of these LED track heads to go on our Lightolier track on display, so we should have them to show very soon:

Minka Aire fan

Our guys just hung the coolest fan!

It's hard to see in the picture, but the fan is up inside that center grille. They call it "Gothic Study Ceiling Fan" ~ it's from their Hearst Castle Collection. As they say, "it is a magnificent rendition of times gone by". I could picture it not just in a study, but also over an eating area or in a living or family room. It's so unique!

Spaces Summer 2009

Happy Monday, everyone! I hope you had a fabulous Independence Day weekend. I certainly feel recharged and ready for a new week!

I just got the new summer issue of Spaces magazine ~ it's one of our favorite magazines around here. So I thought I'd share our ad (it's on page 74 if you want to see it in your copy of the magazine):

This ad looks a little different than our usual, so that's nice. I haven't had a chance to read the rest of the issue, but I'll be sure to let you know if anything else catches my eye!

new Kichler

Happy Independence Day! We had a visit from John Chapman, our Kichler & Jesco rep, today. Last week was the semi-annual lighting show in Dallas, so now we're starting to see all the new offerings. Kichler has a new 70-page supplement, and here is my favorite page:

There are truly TONS of great new items in this new supplement, but you know how I love my drum fixtures, so I just adore the 42252AP in the top right corner. Kichler calls this the Quinn family, and there are a few other pieces, too, so let me know if you want to see more about it. John also showed us Jesco's new "high output" LED tape. Their old tape was 1.4 watts per foot, and the new is 3 watts per foot, so it is truly much brighter. I love this product ~ my sister put it in her new kitchen above her cabinets for accent lighting. Jesco also has some new LED track lights, but John wasn't able to leave us that catalog, so I'll have to show you those later, once I get my own book! We're trying to get a couple of samples to put on our track in the showroom, so I'll keep you posted!

Have a great holiday weekend, and I'll "see" you next week!
